The Georgia Tech LAWN (Local Area Wireless/Walkup Network) is designed for students, faculty, and staff who are
mobile computer users. Mobile users may have wireless-enabled laptop computers, PDAs, or similar devices.
The LAWN gives mobile users a way to connect to many of the same computing resources available to them from a
campus office or student residence hall. The LAWN has wired walkup ports in the Library and College of Computing,
and wireless "hot spots" in and around many campus buildings. In some areas, there is a public-private wireless
service that provides LAWN access for GT Account holders and commercial wireless network access for campus visitors.
- System Requirements
- Access to a web browser or web client with 128-bit SSL encryption
- Active GT account username and password
For Wireless:
- Device with 802.11b, 802.11g or 802.11a radio
- WEP encryption key for LAWN
For Walkup port:
- Device with 10Mbit or 10/100Mbit or 10/100/1000 Ethernet network port and a CAT-5 ethernet cable

- LAWN Coverage
If you want to use LAWN, make sure that you are in a location where wireless coverage is provided.
Not all areas of the Georgia Tech campus are currently covered, but more access points are continually being added.
Go to our map or locations page to see if you should be getting a signal in your location.
If the map and locations page shows that you should have coverage and you are not receiving a good signal or
no signal, please contact support@oit.gatech.edu
NOTE: The map or locations page may be out of date. We have coverage in all residence halls.
- LAWN Security
To prevent phishing from occurring, take the following steps:
- Check to see that the your browser URL matches exactly: https://auth.lawn.gatech.edu/lindex.php
Pay close attention to the https:// prefix. It must say https:// and not http:// .If your browser displays anything
other than the above URL, do not log in. Report the problem to the OIT Technology Support Center

- Make sure that your browser creates the https:// connection cleanly, without any warning messages.
If, after clicking the Login button, you get a pop-up message alerting you to any warning or error, do not log in.
The warning may say something like "The name on the security certificate does not match the name of the site" or
"The security certificate was issued by a company you have not chosen to trust..." or something similar.
